Home away from home 2013
Murray Bridge Regional Gallery. 25 Oct to 01 Dec, 2013. Members of the Collective have used their artwork to explore the concept of home: as a place to live and a site of heritage, family, comfort, spirituality, territory, soul, memories and beginnings. The artists also offer a reflection on the ways that time, distance, space and creativity can shape our perceptions.
Transforming the Vicki Nottage Sculpture court into divided spaces with the aid of movable walls, The Murraylands Arts and Crafts Collective has created an OPEN HOUSE through which to wander and explore 11 artists interpretations of the phrase “Home Away from Home”. From the mundane every day things we take for granted transformed into art to the heritage of self and family investigating where we came from and how it has shaped who we are.
How childhood memories are seen through the veil of time to treasures from the past given a new lease on life. And how Home can encompass more than one physical place, in our hearts and mind.
“The Clothesline out the back” showcases how the members of the Collective continue the evolution of knowledge through workshops by displaying samples and works in progress.

In 2007, Collective members went on a weekend away to Second Valley on the Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia. We toured the area and took lots of photos of the unique coastlines, dilapidated boat sheds and rock formations.
From this collection of images we chose 5 from which to inspire us to create an artwork. Each members art had to be a predetermined size in any media of their choosing.
The resulting exhibition was held in a local restaurant during the South Australia Living Artist Festival (SALA) in August 2008.
